We rarely ever read the newspaper. Since we sit in front of a computer for most of the day, all the news we could want is at our fingertips. What we do miss though is the feeling of flipping through pages and pulling out articles to come back and read at a later time.
By layering a wood veneer on the outside, applying glossy paneling in the interior, and set up from the floor using steel legs that connect the two layers, a unique floating illusion is created. Like what you see? Be sure to check out the
Very slick, Macessity...very, very slick. The LowKey Stand is a powder-coated platform that perfectly compliments your aluminum sheathed iMac or Apple Display, providing a measured cubby slot to tuck away your keyboard while also providing a useful and easy to reach 4-port USB 2.0 hub up front. Love this type of minimal-modern integration...
As much as there's always been a temptation to upgrade to Blu-ray for the HD
The Wanetlight continues the Wiimote hackery with a suspended lighting system composed of 25 blown glass candles with 5x5x5 LEDs clustered in the three axes (LxWxH). The cluster forms a luminous 3-D screen cage. Each LED can be individually controlled for on/off setting for customizable lighting modes, while the Wiimote controls the sensors that pilot the ascending/descending movements of the LEDs. We'd love to see something like this implemented on a huge wall of LEDs that would respond to gestures across it, becoming one huge LED wall paint program.
Packing loads of slim goodness, the HTC Touch Diamond is a powerful Windows Mobile alternative to its iEnemy. From the 2.8" VGA touch-screen, 3.2-megapixel camera,
We'd like to apologize for the site being down for most of the day today. Although we think "small is cool", this apparently doesn't apply when referring to server traffic capacity. An unusual spike in reader traffic brought our site to its knees this morning and we've only just recovered. We're getting everything upgraded now so we can avoid this problem. Thanks for being patient with our growing pains...
And off we go again on our tech tour of this year's Small Cool spaces. Over the past week we've been looking at creative ways this year's
Celebrating their 20th anniversary of its original egg-shaped EGG MOUSE, they have released a new M-EGUR series with multiple colors. Some say, and don't quote us on this: the rounder the mouse, the more ergonomic it is. Surely, it has to be more comfortable than that Dell stock mouse that came with your desktop.
I'm on a bit of a wood thing today. Furni design, the Montral makers of the
For whatever reason I am always misplacing the charger for my cell phone. Partly because I don't like having it laying out looking messy when it is not being used and partly because I unplug it to avoid using unnecessary electricity. Why I can't just put it away in the same place every time is beyond me. To solve my organizational shortcomings when it comes to my chargers, Kangaroom has the ideal solution.
Logitech's Squeezebox Duet answers your cries from experiencing terrible sound from portable speaker solutions. By allowing the ability to tap into your PC (even when it's off), you can browse and play digital music, Internet radio, and other subscription services, anywhere there is a stereo speaker in your home - completely wirelessly.
Between this and the
We're all about multi-monitor setups...once you go dual, single feels a fool. But if you're on a laptop, or don't have any slots available for another video card or just are on a budget, then an external USB vid card like this one from UV Plus+ might be the solution for you...
No wires. Just one huge speaker that looks like an enormous microphone. Using an open USB port, you now the option to insert an industrial grade gooseneck speaker into your laptop wherever you go, whenever you need music.
Would you want to know what radio station your friend is listening to right now? Neither would I, but it seems the BBC thinks so. The Olinda concept is intended to bring social networking to hardware other than your computer.
There are three things that we particularly like about Nostromo's desktop: 1) it's super clean, unlike our own desk at the moment, 2) all his peripherals and decor match (the lamp, speakers and mouse all share an egg-like quality), and 3) the way he's framed his monitor with two vertically situated photo frames creating a pleasing symmetrical workspace. And look, his

Thinner, blacker, and more auto-calibration than your most expensive air conditioning unit, the new pair of Pioneer KURO plasmas boasts an Optimum Mode, which "simultaneously monitors video and room light conditions" and makes adjustments to give you the best image quality.
Just when you thought that there could not be another iPod dock, another iPod dock shows up. Well, technically since the X-light washbasin can connect to any MP3 player, it is not strictly an iPod dock, but it sure is one unique way to get tunes in the bathroom.
Tired of that poor lampshade excuse of a lamp on your bedside table? Try these Cubelights by Nick Foley. They connect via earth magnets and light up each acrylic cube through an LED circuit as the cubes come together. Of course, you can't just make any pattern; it only works when you've created an “N,” a checkerboard-type design, or a nice arch.
As we continue with our look at the best tech in this year's Small Cool contest we go to

We know fire alarms are a safety necessity, providing renters and owners alike a first line defense of alarm in case of an emergency. Rationally we get it. But we're also not too fond of the
