Ellington Composite Ceiling Fan

If you don't have a fan to reverse with the incoming colder weather, the Ellington composite fan is something we would consider because of the design, but more importantly, the price.

Brushed chrome and frosted acrylic blades provide all the air movement without the feel of a heavy fan hanging overhead. The included wall mount control also gives you full adjustability of fan speed and direction. The price is right too, available for $173.50 here

Ellington fans are great - we used two in our house http://flickr.com/photos/emilymch/358792794/in/set-72157594232135805 , but a few cautions are in order. First, the fan comes with a 12" downrod. If your house has standard height ceilings, this will put the fan at decapitation height. We had the same issue with ours and had to do some surgery on the downrod to make them work. Second, the "handy wall control" is actually a box only slightly smaller than a box of pop tarts - and hideous. (at least it was on the model I got - maybe they fixed this issue with the fan linked.) We ended up buying a special fan control switch thing, which added $30 to the cost of the fan. The model we bought was only $50 - much cheaper than the one linked, so even with the extra $30, I was very happy with them. We get tons of comments on them, and wouldn't have gone with anything else!
