Roomba Pet Series: Cleans After your Pets

090308_tf_roombapet.jpgIf you're an AT fan with a dog who has an affinity for shedding (if you're like me, he sheds more hair than it looks like he has on his body), then you know what a pain it is to keep your space looking good under the carpet of dog hair that rests on top. IRobot's Roombas have always been a favorite of pet owners for the little upkeep required to reap the results of a twice-daily room vacuuming. Now, iRobot has released a line just for pet owners like us!

090308_tf_roombapet02.jpgiRobot introduced today the newest addition to its line of vacuum cleaning robots, the Roomba Pet Series Vacuum Cleaning Robot.

Designed with pet owners in mind, the new Roomba 532 and 562 Pet Series Robots come equipped with an extra set of brushes, a high capacity sweeper bin for trapping more pet hair or kitty litter, and new tools that make sure both sets of brushes remain clean. Their sweeper bins hold three-and-a-half times more stuff than the vacuum bin, and counter-rotating brushes reach deep into carpets to pull out pet hair and dander.

The 532 Pet Series Vacuum Cleaning Robot, priced at $349, cleans up to three standard-sized rooms on each charge. It comes with two Virtual Walls that confine and guide the Roomba from room to room and then return it to its Home Base when it's done vacuuming. The Roomba 532 also includes a light-touch bumper, advanced anti-tangle technology and the ability to instantly adjust from carpets to hard flooring.

The 562 Pet Series Robot, priced at $399, does a little better, featuring an extra set of brushes and cleaning up to four standard-sized rooms on a single charge. The Roomba 562 also includes an on-board scheduling function, so it can be programmed to automatically clean up to seven days a week, even when owners are away.

Does anybody have a Roomba? Does it do well cleaning after your pets?

Roombas are not that great. If you have a flat floor, and few interesting features, then sure. However, I've found their cleaning to be spotty. For all that they (irobot) claim it has great AI,it seems to just go back and forth randomly turning at walls.

The vacum isn't very good, so if you have a door jamb, all the dust will collect right there.

Bascially, it's ok for a once over, but if you want your floors clean, you'll need to vacum afterwards anyway, kinda defeating the point.

if you are ok with mostly clean then they are great. But yeah - they do miss stuff in corners sometimes. They aren't maintenance free either. We have two chihuahuas and you have to empty the bin frequently and get hair out of the brushes frequently. We have a small, one story house so we've had a pretty good experience with our roomba. it's a model 550 - we picked it up at Costco about a year ago I guess. We had the sweeper brush break off some arms and they promptly sent like 5 or so replacements brushes free of charge - great support from our experience.

I purchased a Roomba 570 several months ago. While it doesn't pick up as well as the Hoover, it's a lot less work for me. I have it on a twice weekly sweep rotation for the main area I have lots of cat hair and litter. It'd be nice if it was a bit more powerful. With all my cats, my Roomba needs to be emptied at least once each session . . . maybe I should run it every day!!

I just got a Roomba for a housewarming. Drat, If I had known...I also have a chocolate Lab. You can never stay ahead of technology. We have a big open floor plan loft and the only place where the Roomba gets stuck is under the spiral staircase. It has to be run at least three-4 times a week though in order for its dust bin not to overflow with hair. I wouldve liked a bigger sweeper bin. If you have a nice flat wood floor, I know for a fact that these work great. At worst the little "rossie" spits up some hair clump that she cant contain and I have to pick it up.
