We have seen custom fingerprint artwork before, but you met it with 'overpriced' and 'an easy do it yourself project'. Now the same company is digging deeper with mini portraits that displays your DNA. Custom art, sure, but what do you think?

The gel's look cool, but I sort of miss the point of the personalization. A gel like the one shown represents such an eensty weensy portion of the genome, this little section of dna is unlikely to be particularly unique. In fact, I question whether or not the company actually bothers running gels on your saliva or just sends you some attractive looking gel results.

As someone who does PCR and runs gels, this false-coloured gel just doesn't do it for me. I guess it feels contrived. There are a lot of interesting images in science but this one just doesn't work for me.
But it has reminded me that I should go home and put up my collection of old skool polaroid gel pics.
