Home Tech Finalist # 6 - Edward's Small But Tall Home Office

Name: Edward
Location: San Francisco

Favorite other tech entry from the contest: My favorite other entry is #10, Matthew and Kimberly's Modern Organic. I felt it addressed the small space requirements beautifully and economically. The simple and sexy set-up didn't overwhelm the space with equipment and gadgetry. Plus I have the same television.

Most Creative Tech Setup You've Ever Seen: This cordless (sort of) desk solution is pretty great.

Name: Kelly Goodman
Location: Seattle, WA
Favorite weblink: Waking Up on the Wrong Side of the Country
Profession: Art Historian, Freelance Writer, Editor - AT:Home Tech
Most Creative Tech Setup You've Ever Seen: I really love the home of our latest Tech Tour subjects, Ethan and Amy. The integration of technology into their space was done with both function and aesthetics in mind. I think that they really encapsulate how technology should enhance our home and life, without having to detract from or dictate our home's style.

Small Cool Tech 2007: Contest Update

smallcooltech.gifThe twenty entries are up - now we're off to the finals.

Thanks very much to all who entered our first contest on AT:Home Tech. Whether A/V or office (or both!) your tech set-ups got us all thinking about what we can do at our own homes.

This week we'll be meeting our four judges and notifying the six finalists so they can put together their second entry (hopefully including a video!).

Stay tuned for more from your favorite entries and of course, the top three small cool tech solutions in the world...Good Luck to all!

Small Cool 2007 : List of Entries Recieved

2007-04-17-sorry.jpgWe apologize! A bit of a gmail explosion occurred last night as lots of Small Cool spaces started flooding in...and a few may have bounced back.

Below the jump is a complete list of the entries received for the Smallest Coolest Tech contest by the editors...if you are not on the list and should be, please resend.

#6 - Rene's Museum Minimalism

Name: Rene
Location: Dumbo, Brooklyn, NY
A/V or Home Office: A/V

Favorite Source:

CNET is a great resource for tech reviews.

What inspired you?

We were inspired by museum minimalism when setting up the home theatre in our new flat. We use the plasma like a painting hanging on the wall to slideshow HD stills from galleryplayer.com and our laptop. We haven't gone BluRay/HDDVD yet but our setup pumps out an incredible HD image and fills up the room with great sound. The key to a small setup is using the best possible components, which might mean commercial instead of consumer grade. Splurge on the equipment and save money by doing the installation yourself (it's not that hard!).

#5 - Kate's Unconventional Angles

Name: Kate
Location: Honolulu, HI
A/V or Home Office: Home Office

Favorite Source:

Why, Apartment Therapy, of course! Even if I can't afford or get anything featured on the site, I'll often ask myself "how can I replicate that?"

What inspired you?

I suppose I should say most of my inspirations come from my mother. She loves bold colors everywhere, and even in her office she always has bright clipboards, sticky notes, and highlighters--as a result, I love being surrounded by bright color everywhere. She also taught me to approach everything from unconventional angles, which is how I wound up with my entire filing system and cable storage climbing my walls.

#2 - JenPDX's Geek-Out

Name: JenPDX

Location: Portland, Oregon

A/V or Home Office: Both!

Favorite Source: CNET is where I go to figure out if a product I need has even been invented! About.com can be a useful site - it is where I found out about ORB AUDIO.

What inspired you? Tech gadgets should be useful but hidden. In the living room is a ROKU Soundbridge that streams music from my desktop to the stereo. The speaker are from ORB AUDIO and were selected for their small profile and the great reviews I read. The media cabinet (Soorikian Furniture) houses a receiver, dvd player and a center channel speaker. The cut-outs allow me to use the remote controls through the doors.

New Comment System Launches Tommorow

2007-03-19-community.jpgAn Apartment Therapy upgrade is in the works. Tommorrow we will launch our new comments system on AT:Home Tech. It will allow us to get rid of the comment codes and will give each reader an AT profile page which we will be adding features to as the system grows.

For more info, check out Maxwell's post here. We're excited to roll out this improvement. Look for it tomorrow and let us know what you think!
