Blogging Food & Wine: Best Countertop Appliances

2008-02-26foodwinebest.jpg

The March issue of Food and Wine Magazine has 27 "counter top" appliances that they rated good, better and best in each of 9 categories--narrowed down from the original 76 that they tested--and not all of them break the bank, either.

Top awards go to the likes of the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juicer ($90 retail; $70 at Target), and the Krups FBC4 6-Slice Convection ($200 retail; $180 at Amazon), pictured above.

The lowest cost models won out in the deep fryer and food processor categories of the test, but the rice cooker that was many times more than the others won in that category (the $365 Zojirushi 10-Cup Induction, anyone?)

Our personal favorite won for pannini press: The Cuisinart Griddler (see comments).

We also trust recommendations of our good friends over at The Kitchn. Here are their recommendations:
Best Product: Waring Pro Blender
Best Product: UtiliTea Electric Kettle
Favorite Baking Utensils

And if you're like us, what's the deal with rice cookers, anyway?

These are some great appliances but unfortunate to see that not many of them are "multi-taskers." My wife and I have been pining away for a Bosch mixer. With attachments it also becomes a blender, food processor, etc. The kitchen aid is the most popular stand mixer but the Bosch models have far more horsepower and better performance. Serious bakers and cooks have all recommended Bosch over other stand mixers. A little pricey but likely worth it! Surprised that Food and Wine didn't mention these.

Well that's a great list, thanks for sharing it to us, there are plenty people willing to buy new appliance parts that are undecided or unsure of what they should buy. I think that list is a great help for them, recommendations remain a great marketing tool.
