As we enter a recession (yes, we said it), the New York Times has published an article looking at inexpensive and creative solutions from students in New York City. There are so amazing ideas here, like old drawers as wall shelves, Ikea shelves covered with Japanese comics, and using old light bulbs as candle holders.
There were two great Unplggd ideas in the piece. One is using cinder blocks as table legs and speaker stands. While the Times concentrated on the stacked honeycomb cardboard used as a bed base, we liked the idea of using discard cinder blocks to lift things like speakers off the floor. Plus you can use the holes in the blocks to display vinyl figurines or other tchotchkes. The second idea after the jump...
