If at first you don't succeed, try, try again? What doesn't kill you makes you stronger? It looks like both of these phrases are true when you look at some of the products that have come before the Macbook Air and iPhone. So what exactly are we talking about?
Thanks to magnusotis for the pic.
Wired has a nice rundown of some notably bad Apple products which include:
The Apple Newtom
The Apple Pippin
The Twentieth Anniversary Mac
Macintosh TV
G4 Cube - although I actually lliked this machine and still wouldn't mind having one
Apple IIC
The hockey puck mouse
The Apple Lisa
I would add the iPod Hi-fi to this list.

I do alot of tech work for photographers, mostly using 2 macbook pros with 23 or 30" monitors as shoot stations. I have been using the hockey puck mouse since I got it with a blue and white g3 tower back in the day. my imac has a mighty mouse and I say booooring. the blue and white hockey puck is funny and retro and confuses some retarded folks that can't handle a mouse with a wire on it and a ball in it.

I don't know if calling them "notably bad" products is entirely fair. Many of these were actually quite good from a technological standpoint, but failed simply from a business standpoint.
The Newton, for instance, was great technologically. Not without its flaws, of course, but still an amazing device.
The "puck" mouse was actually preferred by some people, especially those with smaller hands.
The Cube was actually a great small form factor computer, and it's still sought after by fans. It's main flaw was that it was overpriced.
