Do You Leave Your Gaming Console On All the Time?

111908_tf_gameenergy_m.jpgWe'd like to think that most of the readers of the Apartment Therapy family of sites (That's all those links resting at the very top of this page) are in favor of making green choices in their life. Sure, we can't always make sure to buy 100% post-consumer recycled packaging (we all know how living green means spending green), but not taking a plastic bag from a store clerk when you have few enough items to carry is something small and smart that we can always get behind. So when we came across this Consumerist article about how much money you waste when you never turn off your gaming console (The figures are under the jump, if you're interested.), we took pause...

Do you leave your gaming console on all the time? It seems to us like one of those things you use and then turn off, like an oven. But maybe we're not as hardcore of gamers as some others of you out there.

A friend pointed out to us that we never turn our computer off, and that for some people, leaving the XBox on is the same thing.

What do you think?

Another (possibly more compelling if you're not into the green movement) reason to shut off your gaming console is this: Lasers have a service life. They do not last forever. After going through a couple PS2s that I never turned off, I learned that as long as a console is turned on, so it the laser. It is only a matter of time before it burns out and you're back at Best Buy ready to drop a few hundred bucks on a replacement.

Ummm, if you leave your xbox on all the time you are just asking for a RROD. I turn mine off whenever i'm not using it, because of that, i could care less about power usage or the laser....But getting a RROD is more likely to actually effect me in a negative way.

- I have two people on my friends list and they were ALWAYS online, i asked each of them why and they said that they don't turn off their xbox. I mentined that it might increase their chances of getting a RROD. The both had it happen to them not a month later.

I never turned off my Wii and it died. Lesson learned.
