Have You Lost Tech in a Tragedy?

062909_tf_missingipod1.jpgThat up there? Yep, that's my car. One second I was cruising through a green light and the next second I was crushed, cut up, bruised—and minus one iPod. In all the bumping around, everything that was loose in the car was shaken up and somehow my iPod was missing...

062909_tf_smashedphone2.jpgWe're not trying to make light of disasters. Of course, the first priority in any emergency is to make sure people and pets are OK, not to worry about material things that can be replaced. But this is, after all, Unplggd. Since I made it out of my wreck (mostly) unharmed, I'll admit I got a little miffed about losing my iPod.

Plus, my accident got me thinking about people that might have lost bigger, more valuable tech in even more tragic circumstances. Have you lost your HDTV in a house fire? Or maybe your computer was damaged in a flood? Let us know in the comments what you lost, how you felt and how you dealt with it...

Just two days ago, I lost my 7 month young unibody MacBook Pro to a thief with sticky fingers in a grocery store parking lot.

It's not quite a natural disaster, but I'm pretty sure it qualifies as a tragedy.

Lost a computer carrying my only copies of some old, sentimental digital photos during an office break-in a few years ago. They're gone forever--redundant backups are a necessity now.
