apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Padma Lakshmi's Self-Absorbed Computer Screen Saver

030309_tf_padmascreen1.jpgHave you all been over to Apartment Therapy yet to see the sneak peek that Harper's Bazaar provided into Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi's home? It's worth a gander to see a beautiful woman showing off her beautiful home. But, like many AT-ers posted in the comments of that post, something about her choices of artwork (especially her desktop screensaver, in this case) that seem a bit off...

Padma's screensaver, in a similar fashion to the Francesco Clemente-made painting over her bed, is an image of her. Yep boys, Padma uses a sexy shot of herself as a screen saver just like you. I guess it's meant to be.

A bunch of you in the comments posted about how strange and self-absorbed you thought it was.

When we asked about matching your desktop to your decor, we mentioned the possibility of having pictures of friends and family displayed as your screen art. We know a lot of our friends do it. But besides maybe a wedding photo, they're not really self-centric.

Tell us: do you (or would you) have photos of yourself displayed as your computer desktop? Is it for a self-esteem boost? Or do you just like looking at yourself?

Perhaps she was merely poking a bit of fun at Harper's by placing her own image on the computer screen. I suspect it's an inside joke, rather than being stuck on herself.

For the record, I do have an especially nice photograph of myself in the huge photo collection that I rotate for the desktop.

I think it's kinda weird to have just a solo shot of yourself staring right back at you every time you are at the computer. Maybe she doesn't use it all that much.

I'm wondering if she did it for the photo shoot?

I used to work with someone whose computer desktop was a picture of herself. She is as self-absorbed as that would indicate.

Wait is it her screen saver? Or her desktop wallpaper?
I would NEVER use myself for the desktop wallpaper.
But I use that windows screen saver that scrolls through the photos on my harddrive. So I've got at least a couple dozen photos of myself on my screen saver. (Amongst the thousands of photos in it).

Wow...Padma Lunchmeat has some serious ego issues...Wait...I bet this isn't even her house...I bet it's Collichio's and that's not really Padma it's a cardboard cutout...

Oh Tom...how ashamed you must be...

computer desktops/wallpapers and screensavers aren't interchangeable. screensavers are generally non-static images, created for the purpose of eliminating 'burn-in' on screens; hence the term 'saver'.

i've had pictures of myself as wallpapers before. i like having pretty pictures to look at, and some of those pretty pictures just happen to be of me.
