Yesterday's post about TV in the bathroom got us thinking: How much tech do we really use in our bathrooms? We stumbled upon an article in This Old House that reminded us that Americans spend more on electronics than any other luxury and that the bathroom is the most renovated room in the house after kitchens. They saw a trend emerge: the media-wired bath.
Just the fact that we've started talking about it means it's started the life cycle of a trend.
Most of you, however, voted "No" on the bathroom mirror television. Was that a no to bathroom tech altogether, or just no to the TV-in-the-mirror? I used to have an iHome in my bathroom before I moved, and I must admit that it would be great (if I weren't a renter) to be able to renovate my bathroom to include a pre-wired iPod stereo system—no counter space necessary.
This Old House noted a number of manufacturers (Kohler, Polk Audio, Samsung, Seura and Jensen Company) who are adding humidity-proof and splash-proof electronics to their lines. If they're expecting to sell a lot of bathroom electronics, we should probably brace ourselves to see them being integrated into decor.
We even saw the topic come up on Apartment Therapy LA recently.
Although with the impending economic crisis, we doubt anybody is going to be doing any major renovations. Will this trend die before it starts?

This trend is big with the McMansions. Some contractors are probably kicking themselves for moves like this while their 800k houses are sitting vacant on the market.
But who knows, after all the rebates, builder's incentives, etc. it's probably worth it to throw a tv in the bathroom. Even most people take showers. Even if you can see the mount in the reflection on the mirror.

Even "if" most people take showers.

I love a long bath with a good book. I can't wait until I can surf the net in the tub.
