Where do the Desk-Less Keep their Wireless Printers?

110909_tf_printerlaptop.jpgOne of the virtues of being a laptop owner is the ability to be a part of the most nomadic of the home tech lifestyles: The desk-less. You can make your kitchen, bedroom or bathroom an instant workspace—but where do you keep your printer?

110909_tf_printershelf.jpgIn the comments on this former post about a laptop desk, you readers (virtually) resounded with shouts proclaiming your desk-less lifestyles. A notebook user doesn't need a desk to call home!

But even though most laptop users don't need dedicated desks, their everyday computer peripherals—like a printer—still do need a place to call home, leaving many would-be-nomads tethered to their desks.

Luckily, the availability and ease of setting up a wireless printer on your in-home WiFi network is giving many the chance to break free from desks—leaving them with a bigger worry: Where do you keep your wireless printers?

So tell us in the comments: Where does your wireless printer call home? We love these two responses from the former post:

Leave the printer in the closet. Buy a wireless print server for $50 or so and you'll never have to hassle with moving the printer again. Works great for me. -TypicalGuy

I have mine in a deep drawer of my entertainment cabinet - I just open the drawer and switch the thing on to print...
..a.nd when I'm done, close the drawer.

I Keep a WIRED printer in the closet. It required a 25 ft. Firewire cable which was challenging to track down but well worth it.

I don't have a printer. In the rare cases where I need to print something for personal use, I've printed stuff out at work. If that didn't work out, there's a FedEx/Kinko's down the block I could use.

Neatly hidden in the living room closet (along with the NAS, router, and modem). I even built a nice wooden chest to hide the cables :)

I have a nice little wooden cart I found behind the dumpster at my apartments that is stuck in a corner by my closet. Two shelfer, so the printer is on top, and all of my paper/envelopes etc. are below.

I have a desk and a PC, but why waste room there?

even wireless, printers are the true eyesore of computing, that's why a drawer, in a spare room, in the garage or yes, in a closet works great!

i wish there was a monitor/printer combo option. you could store the paper behind the monitor, hit the print button and out it comes from the base of the monitor. but i'm probably getting ahead of myself! nice to dream...

I used to keep my wireless printer on my media center. When it was closed, it looked sleek and matched everything else on the center. When I needed it, all I did was push a button and press print. It worked beautifully and wasn't an eye-sore.

We use a 3 shelf Metro Shelf Cart for our media storage.
Tv on top, DVR DVD VCR, cable modem and Airport on second shelf, printer / fax cordless phone base on bottom.
Works great!

I keep mine in a drawer of the Living Room wall unit beneath the Television & Stereo - it's connected via USB to the Airport Express which is itself off the cable internet modem and linked to the stereo so I can listen to my iTunes on the system.

We keep ours under the bed (no closet space) and haul it out when we need it. Luckily, it's not that often (the thing is a beast).

I keep mine on top of a drawer unit in my closet. It's actually mostly hidden by my clothing. I'm so glad wireless printers exist.

Our printer is on our built-in bookshelf in our living room. I'm now racking my brain to come up with some better place to put it. No good thoughts so far...

my printer is in the cradenza with the usb cable attached to an apple express base station. I built a slide out shelf that it rest on, so that when I need to print, i just open the cradenza, pull it out, and start printing away, and just slide it back when i don't need it. It works great.
