No, this isn't a scam. Nor is it exactly what it seems. G.ho.st, an acronym for Global Hosted Operating SysTem, is a service that lets everyone have an online computer workspace that they can access with a Web browser from anywhere for free. The perfect solution for nomads, drifters, business travelers and people with more than one computer.
G.ho.st's virtual computer is easily accessible through a Web browser, where you'll see a virtual desktop that acts as if it were on your very own machine.
With G.ho.st, you'll have access to open-source programs (read: nothing name brand), but you should be able to play with common files like MS Office documents. Plus—get this—you'll be able to browse the internet inside the internet, with your bookmarks all coming with you no matter where you're browsing from.
And coming along with the free G.ho.st virtual computer, you get 5GB of storage and an @G.ho.st email address. Learn more and sign up here.

While this solution is nice, if you don't mind carrying around a USB stick with you there is another alternative which I've found great for many reasons.
It's the PortableApps.com suite, as recently covered in Lifehacker.
