Tech Tip: Use Menu Settings to Learn a Language

Tech helps out and makes our lives easier in far too many ways to count (Isn't advancement the whole point of technology?). But here's one tip courtesy of Geek Sugar that's as surprising as it is useful, especially if you're traveling abroad this summer...

Geek Sugar suggests changing the default language on your gadgets—your cell phone, cable guide or laptop, for instance—to help yourself get familiar with a new language.

For the gadgets you use everyday, it should be an acheivable challenge to get around at first. But in a little while you'll find that "Por favor, reinicie el equipo" and "Définir un rappel" are in your new lexicon (That's "Please restart your computer" and "Set a reminder" in Spanish and French, respectively).

Now switching your cable guide to Japanese isn't going to have you chatting your way through Tokyo on it's own. But if you're already taking classes or watching DVDs to help you learn a little conversational German, seeing and using the language often throughout your day is definitely good practice!
