The Periodic Table of Typefaces
Designers, It's Cram Session Time

031309_tf_typefacetable1.jpgWhether you're a seasoned designer, use graphic design as a hobby or are simply a type enthusiast, we could all use a little study guide on the bajillionty fonts out there in the world. This Periodic Table of Typefaces doesn't cover a bajillionty fonts—or even a eleventyseven billions— but it's a good start at learning the characteristics and history of some fonts. Or, it's just great to set as your desktop image or print out as a great poster for the office. Full size image linked under the jump...

031309_tf_typefacetable2.jpgThe Periodic Table of Typefaces comes to us from Web designers Squidspot.

They gave each of several major fonts a square in the table that includes information about the family and classification of each, the designer, the year the font was designed, and an overall ranking derived from several internet sources.

It's worth a look at the full-size image (here) to check out the age of some of today's highest-ranking typefaces.
