110708_rg_mintyboost_01.jpgThere is nothing more frustrating than being on the road or around and running out of juice in your iPod or iPhone. There are a number of solutions out there that will help you charge your gadgets, but most of them are pretty expensive. We've seen sets that will set you back at least $100. Thankfully, there's something easier and cheaper around, something with which you can even tinker around a bit. It's called the MintyBoost.

110708_rg_mintyboost_03.jpgThe MintyBoost is a small DIY kit is available from the Makershed and works well for any gadget that can be charged via a USB port. It's been tested with iPods, cameras, cell phones, and other gadgets to make sure that it works well. What's really cool is that the power comes from 2 AA batteries. That's right, you just plug in two disposable AA batteries and charging will start.

110708_rg_mintyboost_04.jpgSure it doesn't look as cool as the Movie Juice Box, but it'll do the job and it will do it cheaply. The charger will run your iPod for hours and it works with rechargeable batteries as well. Tests indicate that it doubles your iPod's battery life. The DIY kit involves some easy soldering. The batteries and tin aren't included, but finding those shouldn't be a problem. If you are worried about the soldering part, the makers have included a step-by-step instruction guide on their website to help you out.

My boyfriend made one of these for me a couple years ago and I love it! It's so handy because I can take it on a trip and not have to worry about looking for a computer to charge my iPod.
