Want to leave wi-fi in the dust and stop having to snake ethernet cables all along the wall to hook up your vid game console or home theater PC to the internet? We've always been interested in giving Powerline technology an opportunity to replace our current hidden Cat5 and wi-fi home networking setup, and now prices are coming down while speed is going up...way up, with the release of the Belkin Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit...
Plug in the Belkin Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit adapter into your router and the other component into your gaming console or media PC and now you're using your home's electrical wiring to transfer those 1's and 0's at speeds up to 1000Mbps eliminating latency issues while you're playing your fav game and perfect for HD movie streaming from a home server. And best yet, it uses a wiring system already there in your home. We just wonder if our "vintage" era (in other words, run down) apartment's electrical wiring is up to task. But at $149.99 (currently out of stock), the device seems feature filled enough for us to reconsider our yesteryear ethernet setup...we'll report back if we make the jump with a hands-on review.
- Plug one end of the Adapter into an available wall outlet.
- Connect the other end to any device with an available Ethernet port (RJ45), such as a gaming console, set-top box, or computer.
- Includes one single-port Adapter for a gaming console, HDTV, or a computer and another single-port Adapter to plug into a router
- Push-button security
- Compatible with HomePlug®AV products

I've been using Belkin Powerline products for years. Very happy with them although real world performance is probably 20-30% of the advertised speed. I'll be upgrading to this when it is available.

You know, I am very interested in this gadget for my home theater. I have this Netgear Digital Entertainer thingy (which is one of those on-demand movie file servers), and I am NOT impressed with how laggy it gets and how it chokes in the middle of a movie-watching session.
