We recommend you take a look at How to Buy a Digital Camera, which breaks down the process of finding the best camera for your needs into 11 essential and informative steps. Read this and that kid at Best Buy won't be able to hard sell you by throwing out terms like "image stabilization" and "D-lighting" willy nilly.

Although I have one Canon Elph, I've stayed w/Olympus cameras and I pretty much lurve them. My Olympus E500 DSLR is fantastic.

You know what would be fantastic? If there was a company where you could rent digital SLR cameras... I'm debating take a photography class, but before I invest in one, I'd love to try one out!

I did plenty of research before I got my new camera, it was between the Canon PowerShot SD 1000 and the Panasonic Lumix FX33. I went with the Panasonic (even though I have always liked Canons - I was on my third PowerShot) because of its wide-angle Leica lens. What a difference that lens makes. And the camera is pretty damn good looking too, and feels well constructed.
