Taking a cue from the popularity of the Nintendo Wii, Hitachi's engineers showcased a motion-gesture remote control system that brought flashbacks of Mr. Miyagi telling Daniel-san to "wax on, wax off". The system's motion sensor works in tandem with a graphical user interface that recognizes circular, vertical and horizontal arm movements to control volume, channel and on/off functions. How did it work? For the most part, impressively, although it would occasionally not recognize the "lazy" motions of attendees trying out the system (I would have, but some pushy fella barged his way ahead of me and I was too tired to gesticulate a knuckle sandwich and change his channel).
