QLOCKTWO: A Reading Lovers' Way of Telling Time

081909_qlocktwo.jpgIf you're looking for an eye-catching wall piece in your home, perhaps the ultra-modern QLOCKTWO (Strange name, ain't it?) digital wall clock might just be up your alley. That is, if one of your life joys include reading time with words in sexy illuminated glory, rather than numbers, and if that you're willing to throw down the price of a modern day computer in order to obtain such technological thrills...

081909_qlocktwo2.jpgThe handmade piece features a painted acrylic faceplate and wooden frame housing LEDs and fancy circuity programmed to tell time with the individual letters. There's also an automatic brightness meter that adjusts accordingly based on the surrounding ambient light.

The German video illustrates the clock in action:

The QLOCKTWO can be had for €1099.99 (or $1565 USD), and interchangeable color faceplates are available starting at €95 (appx. $136 USD) each over at the Biegert & Funk store.

Can't afford modern design? Luckily, there's a version for the iPhone that essentially emulates the same thing. That app can be had for an affordable $0.99 over at the App store.

Or if you already spent the computer money on the iMac (or windows machine...), this screensaver does the same thing for free!

I just fell in love with this clock and then saw the price and got my heart broken. I guess I could just buy cheap laptop and mount it to the wall and run the screensaver.

Do people make things like this with these prices to actually sell or are they just art pieces? And $136 for the different faceplates? For $1565, you could throw those in for free!

I often wonder the same thing modernguy. For $1500 you can mount a pretty nice 32" LCD TV to the wall with a MacMini running just about anything you want.

Yeesh. That thing would be overpriced at $150. It's no more complicated than a standard alarm clock, really.
