Here's one from our man Taylor.
We've all known the joy of test-driving new system software, but Apple's iPhone 2.0 software update takes it to a new level.
Although we love the variety of applications available through the iTunes App Store, trying to separate the good from the bad in the initial release is a little overwhelming. Below are a couple must-haves (all free), but let us know which app is your new favorite. --Taylor

Shazam! If you haven't downloaded this yet, it's pretty amazing. It's awesome if that song you love but don't know who sings it comes on the radio - just tag it and Shazam! now you know!

the AIM app is terrible, are you kidding me?!
the remote app is great. voice notes is another good one. shame lastfm isn't near as good as the jailbroken version.
there are some useful apps, and some over priced ones. still need a few of my jailbroken apps though.

The NYTimes' Dining Section has an article on the new app Urbanspoon: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/16/dining/16note.html?ref=dining
Seems like a lot of apps tantalizingly offer something I'd want, but fall somewhat short in the execution. They do, though, make the ipod touch a way to have some iphone functionality without being indentured into one of those ridonkulous service plans.

My favorite app is simply called "Light". It makes the entire screen bright white and makes the iPhone into a surprisingly bright flashlight.
Perfect for those of us who are a little too clumsy to make it to bed in the dark!
