Passive Aggressive WiFi: Let Others Know What's Wrong

020310passiveaggressive.jpgWiFi networks have become pretty standard nowadays and it's quite common for people to try and steal or "borrow" your signal if you haven't protected your home network with a password. That's not all: you can easily pass on some messages to your more annoying neighbors anonymously.

020310_rg_PassAggWiFi_02.jpgThe one thing that most people forget is to simply create a good password to protect their home network. That won't stop everyone, but it will protect you from most people trying to get at your signal. The other great thing that you can do with your WiFi network is to send some passive aggressive notes to your neighbors, when you just don't feel comfortable enough raising the issue with a handwritten note or in person.

We agree that some people really have trouble with others criticizing them, that's why we like this idea a lot. You just rename your wireless home network onto a short message that you want your neighbors to know. Usually, when a computer searches for a WiFi signal, it displays a list of the ones available. It won't take long for your message to be heard, we guarantee that.

I am so tempted to rename my network "stoppollutingthecourtyardwithyercarcinogeniccigarettesmokeyouselfishbastards" that I can hardly see straight.

In my building it would be
"Stop those long screaming matches with your daughter. The whole building hears them and we almost called the cops last time!"

our is "hello, ladies."

i haven't heard anyone talking about it, but it makes me giggle whenever i have to change our settings.

My parents' neighbors have named theirs "FBIwiretap". I don't think anybody's gonna risk messing with that one.

Ha! My boyfriend is a bit passive/aggressive and he named our wireless in a way that would tell the neighbors not to mooch. Here's a screenshot:
