Acer AspireRevo: The Perfect Home Theater PC?

040809_rg_aceraspirerevo_01.jpgWhen you are trying to find a computer for your home theater system, you try and find something that's pretty discreet and not too box-like and big. The trouble is that most computer cases are quite big, if you don't get a smaller Shuttle case, and take up a lot of space. They also can take up a lot of space and can basically be an eyesore to an otherwise nicely decorated room. That's why we think that the new Acer AspireRevo might just be the perfect home theater PC.

040809_rg_aceraspirerevo_02.jpgNVIDIA and Acer teamed up to create this svelte looking PC. It's based on the NVIDIA Ion chipset. The small nettop includes support for HD videos, photos, and games. It's no larger than a hardcover book and is fully capable with advanced graphics capabilities. This graphics chipset is supposed to be 10 times as fast as the ones included in the latest MacBooks, so that's pretty fast! It's powered by an Intel Atom processor. The AspireRevo can run 1080p HD videos and output 7.1 surround sound. It has 6 USB ports, HDMI, Ethernet, a four-in-one card reader, and a VGA connection.

040809_rg_aceraspirerevo_03.jpgSince the box is powered by an Intel Atom processor, don't expect it to be able to run many games. As a home theater computer though, it looks perfect. The case is quite small and it looks good, the new NVIDIA embedded graphics processor is able to run HD videos without a hitch, making it quite formidable. It can also double as an extra computer and since it's expected to cost somewhere between $350 to $450, it won't break the bank.

I like the concept, but the industrial design creates some questions. If you have HDMI, audio out, and multiple USB things connected, does that mean you have wires sticking out of three different sides of the PC?

That's not aesthetic.
