The new LG X-R700 and X-S900 laptops are being marketed as desktop replacements and it got us wondering; is it time to give up the desktop altogether? We have a couple of old PCs kicking around and may pick up a new one later this year, but we are virtual warriors (of righteousness). What say all of you?

I think the desktop will always have something to say when it comes to shear power. They will always have the added strength and processing ability. The question though is will it continue to remain present in an average consumers home? I think it doesn't have a chance. Every day people need that little extra mobility. But if its an office computer with some kick butt computing, I guarantee the desktop will always have its place.

Desktops certainly won't go away. The music and film industry rely on them.

Laptops are an ergonomic nightmare. Sure they're small and sleek but having a desk set up correctly with a keyboard/mouse tray and a monitor at the correct height is much healthier if you spend any real amount of time on your computer. Now if you're just checking your email every day for a few minutes I suppose a laptop can be a nice choice. But if you are looking for a powerful desktop replacement - I suggest reconsidering and looking at a real desktop (and an appropriate desk and chair as well - humanscale makes some nice stuff.)
