Doesn't seem like a programmable thermo is controversial. If you set it like a reasonable and conservative person, you are good to go. We set on a schedule of: 60 at night. 70 betw. 6am and 8am. 60 during the day. 68 between 5:30pm and 10:30pm. Rinse, repeat.
If you set it at 74 during the day or all day and such, you don't save much. Not really controversial, just common sense.
