Coughing Ashtray: Get a Hint?

111308_tf_ashtray1.jpgWhen you non-smokers told us about your opinion of welcoming smoking guests into your home, we got the picture that some of you are admittedly not soft about kicking chimneys, even the ones you love, out to the curb to light one up. Sure, it's a little gimmicky, but we think that you could benefit from leaving this ashtray in your smoking section at a party to make a statement. Or to be really obnoxious, leave this in a designated non-smoking area to hope your friends get the hint...

The Coughing Ashtray has a built-in motion sensor that triggers a playback of the cough of a pack-a-day smoker whenever a ciggie (or even a pencil or finger or anything cigarette-like) goes anywhere near it.

What do you think? Too harsh? Just the right statement? Tell us!

Smokers don't care. They'll just be slightly annoyed and then keep smoking. I tried something like this once. While I was walking to class, this guy lit one up in front of me and the smoke landed right in my face. I coughed loudly. Nothing. I coughed louder. Nothing. Then I asked him to not blow smoke in my face. Know what he said? "Well walk in front of me." Hmph.
