Credit Card Pig Bank is an Old Friend With a New Life

080408_tf_pigbank01.jpgIt seems like we’re always a fan of seeing our childhood favorites go around the high-tech circle of life here at Unplggd. (Like Atari, Hello Kitty, and Duck Hunt, for instance.) We guess it’s kind of cool being reminded how simple things seemed to be back then. This porky idea, one of 5 nominees for the European Henkel Design Award last year, aims to do away with pennies in a jar for good. It might be a good way to save up for the “I-don’t-carry-cash” set…

Whenever you slide your card through the reader in your ceramic pig, it connects to a nearby computer via Bluetooth. The software on your computer will connect directly to your bank and some predetermined amount of money will be credited to your account.

The designer also predicts that Credit Card Pig Bank could be used in malls and stores for collecting charitable donations.

I find it very nice and useful as well. I would like to buy something similar as a present for my husband’s birthday. Do you know where can I find one? Do all the cards work or I need to find a good credit card comparison site and find out which company work with this type of “economies account”.
