1957 Magnavox TV Console Converted Into Media Cabinet

Maybe you grandfather has one of these old wood console TV's in his garage or up in an attic somewhere. Or maybe you'll be fortunate to find one at a flea market or garage sale. In any case, we think if you can get your hands on one, do it. Even if it doesn't work, there's all sorts of DIY possibilities, like this TV console turned media storage cabinet project completed by furniture designer, Leo Kempf.

Leo describes his old timey conversion: "1957 Magnavox mahogany television console with new tv installed and bottom grill area converted into media storage. Controlled via remote. Largest knob areas used as speaker locations. Patina finish. "

We're thinking a PC or Mac home theater PC unit integrated into an old fashioned wood TV cabinet (here's one available on eBay for $50) would be a great fit too; throw in a LCD, add a couple of additional drives, and connect with a media center streamer like the Popcorn Hour A-100 and you've got an interesting way to stream and control your media.

Oh, and we love how he's included a disclaimer that "No antique television parts were discarded in the making of this piece. "

I love old TV consoles so much.

I have an old RCA tv cabinet in storage that I want to do this to at some point in the future.

I've been looking for the right cabinet to do a modification to. The Moto on ebay isn't bad, but it also isn't going to be shipped anywhere.

Back to craigslist....
