DIY Kit Lets You Coil a Cord Lamp

We're seeing the trend lately that lamps getting proud about showing off their cords, but they've all been high-design (read: really expensive) items—until now...

The cord lamp from MOMA stands proud with the wire as it's only base and a series of lamps from Milan Design Week use their cords to provide seating!

But this, the Coil Lamp from Craighton Berman, was a high-design art piece (We first spotted it at Apartment Therapy LA when it was featured in the Deceptive Design show) but is now a DIT kit that lets you build your own coiled-up lampshade and base from any 100-foot extension cord. You can stick with the super-industrial orange cord or go crazy with pink.

All you need is the $75 kit from Craighton Berman, your cord and a CFL bulb. The kit includes a laser-cut acrylic frame, bulb adaptor and illustrated assembly instructions.

If you're not into the DIY thing, though, you can buy a fully-assembled, numbered and signed lamp for $150.
