Everyone is Twittering...Even Your Cats

040609catdoor1.jpgTaryn and Anthony recently jumped (gave) in and finally joined Twitter, maybe because they read that even household cats are twittering their comings and goings these days. Cat owner and programmer Kimberly Nixon integrated RFID tags onto each of of her two cat's collars so both Gus and Penny could gain entry or exit via an automatic cat door, logged each time with both a digital photo and a tweet so their bipedal slave/owner could rest assured all was well at home base...

Each cat has a small RFID tag on the collar. When a cat is in the close proximity of the door, a small RFID reader reads the tag and if the cat is authorized, a servo will unlock the cat door. The RFID reader and the servo controller are connected to an old laptop. The software on the laptop is written in Delphi and for each "cat door event" is sending a Twitter message and a picture to twitter.com

You can follow Gus and Penny at their Twitter page and drop by Kimberly's site to see more images and details about her Twittering Automatic Cat Door here.
