The Incredible DIY Rotating LEGO Iphone Dock

091509_rg_DIYiPhoneDock_01.jpgWe love LEGO bricks. They remind us of when we were younger and had a lot of fun on our agendas, instead of chores and meetings. Well, don't discount the use of your old LEGO bricks just yet. It seems that you can actually build yourself a sweet looking iPhone dock. More after the jump!

091509_rg_DIYiPhoneDock_02.jpgThe iPhone has got an accelerometer, so it can easily switch its display between portrait and landscape mode when you rotate it. It seems logical that any dock should enable you to do the same. However, this isn't the case, as most docks remain fixed in one position over the other. Dr. Steven Combs came up with this very cool iPhone dock design. What sets it apart is that it can rotate and it just looks awesome in black, gray and white LEGO bricks.

091509_rg_DIYiPhoneDock_02.jpgFor now, you'll have to check on his site to see if he will post the instructions, but other users have reported success on being able to duplicate his dock without having to see the plans. That's the fun part of LEGOs, being able to figure out how something is made by looking at photos of it. The photos on Combs' Flickr site are pretty large, so you won't have any problems making this really cool dock. You'll need some technical LEGO bricks in order to complete this build, not just plain vanilla LEGOs.

091509_rg_DIYiPhoneDock_03.jpgWe really like this little project. It's amazing to see that most of us have a really cool iPhone dock lying around in the kids room or your old LEGO bricks. This makes us want to try and build this for ourselves. The design for the iPhone requires it to be rotating, but nothing is stopping you from improvising on this design to cater to your own needs.

It makes me want to buy some LEGOs and get building, because it sure looks cool. I want to figure out the rotating mechanism as well.
