The simplest solution is to laminate the records to keep moisture from seeping into the rings. Cut around the edges and you've got an instant coaster!
Your other option would be to place a piece of perfectly cut glass on top of the records and glue it down, but we haven't been able to find any products that fit the bill.
If you're not feeling up to the DIY project, you can easily grab some pre-made coasters from Elsewares for $20 (set of 6). Of course this won't be as personal, nor make you as cool, but they're presealed and a plastic ring around it gives it a sturdier feel.
I would also back them with felt or cork to protect the surfaces from accidental scratching.
This is a really cute idea and I totally feel the need to hit the 45 bin at Half Price Books and make some of these for Stocking Stuffers!

Just as a reminder peeps- if you are going to do this- do it to SCRATCHED RECORDS ONLY. A record in good condition may be quaint to you but to a vinyl lover, it may be a collector's item. Records are not obsolete, they are an ever diminishing resource.
