Yesterday we posted about the Design Within Reach Muro Media Storage, a ingenious customizable flat panel TV and media center solution. Our big gripe was the price, as it's made of MDF board and obviously a simple design to DIY. And DIY was exactly what Unplggd reader wheelersean did...
I built this version a couple weeks ago from some repurposed plywood (from an earlier project). The Muro design was the inspiration, but I still had to purchase a low profile mounting bracket (from monoprice.com), some screws, and some white stain. The rest of the project was my time and construction.
Great job, wheelersean, and an inspiration for us who still find aspire for great design and with some DIY moxie!
I figured someone would make this. It's simple and easy to do if you have the know how to cut wood. I'll be thinking about this project when it comes time that I want a tv rack for my bedroom.

how are you attaching it to the wall? my major problem would be drilling large holes in the walls of a rental!

I checked out the plans on the Muro website and they show small l shaped brackets (about 3 of them I believe) attached to the top of the ent. center and to the wall.

yeah, i just used 2 L-shaped brackets centered on 2 wood studs. most of the weight is being transfered directly to the floor, so it does not take much to hold it up.

Nice! I'd like to try this project.
