Always Use Protection: Read-Through Skins for Media Disks

030209_tf_d_skin1.jpgOur media disks have a lot of everyday hazards to deal with every day. You think nothing of a closing DVD player drawer or a delicious peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but for DVDs, CDs and Video Game Disks, these mundane occurrences could spell certain death. Well, that's what the makers of d_skin would have you believe, according to their promo video. Their clip-on skins protect disks from harm and still allow then to be read in optical scanners...

Considering that I currently have a stack of DVD movies sitting next to my TV that simply haven't made it back to their protective cases since watching them days—and sometimes weeks—ago, I might be the target customer for d_skin.

They come in packs of 5 ($11.99), 20 ($34.99) and 50 ($69.99). Get them here.

i saw these years ago, thought it was a good idea but the price is outrageous. You'd be better off ripping your discs and burning copies, then just watch those, if something happens to them, just burn a new one. Or put them all on a media server.

Instead of something that costs a minimum of $1.40 each and itself will need to be replaced as well.

Also have read about problems actually reading through these.

These totally blow. They warp and make dvds unreadable. Maybe they're good as protection when you toss them on top of the dvd player, but I have to pop them off in order to actually use them.

my friend bought these when they first came out a few years ago however he said he noticed many times it would cause the dvds to skip and when he took of the skin it was fine.
