Phillips Ambisound

We really like products that intelligently combine functionality while saving space. It doesn't hurt that the Philips Ambisound is also a pretty slick looking device. Virtual surround sound with glossy black integrated CD/ DVD player and amplifier, this is definitely an interesting alternative to the Yamaha YSP virtual surrounds.

Announced at CES in January and slated for availability in the second quarter of 2007 for $999

I live in a loft and hate all the wiring for surround sound. Does anyone have any experience with these wireless systems? Poor choice for lofts without the usual 4 walls? I like the design though.

I don't know that these would work well in a loft. From what I've read they seem to want smaller spaces. Unless of course you've got a small loft, then I guess it would work. Personally I'd be more likely to install ribbon speaker cable under carpets or skim coated into the wall.

i just had a speaker installation guy in my apartment today. he installed ceiling speakers for the sonos in my living room. i had planned to have him install ceiling rear channels and wall mounted front channels in the home theater (another room). when he saw this weird room, he instantly recommended the sound bar idea. he didn't mention this particular model, but the polk one (speakers only) and the yamaha. i think its the best solution for my awkwardly shaped room, which is about 16 x 25 with many nooks and parts jutting out (bar, fireplace, bookcases, staircase, door to patio). we'll see.
