Gah. Urban Counterfeiters gives money to conservative causes and republican politicians like the thankfully former senator Santorum. They are also well known for ripping off artists' ideas and selling them as their own. Please, just go to your local art and craft store where you'll find better stuff at cheaper prices and you won't be supporting this faux-hip front for Rchard Hayne's anti-gay agenda.

Besides, look a little deeper and you'll find much much better stuff for less. And it will be made way better. I picked up an original Diana at the flea market for $5. Anyone who sews knows new sewing machines are crap too. Find vintage ones on Craig's List.

Besides the relatively high price point of UO products, I do love using them for ideas to use elsewhere. I remember when they had a few tees that looked really nice, but I went to my local Crossroads and picked it up for a few bucks. Stylin' on a dime, yeah!

UO is indeed overpriced, apart from their political issues (which, let's be fair, are at the top, not at all reflecting opinions held by most of its work force). Sometimes items I'm aware of from other stores are sold there, and the mark-up is insane... like blind-boxed Re-Ment miniatures that usually sell for around $3 or so that they sold for $10, or tiny Japanese condiment dishes sold in my neighborhood for $2 and at UO for $6.

The Free People clothing brand used to be sold at UO a lot but seems to have mostly moved over to Anthropologie. They have a nice blog, pretty and inspiring and worth a look. They do talk about their clothing, which isn't relevant to this site, but they also discuss a lot of artists.

(No, I don't work for them or anything like that.)

Still, any kind of art materials that you can buy at UO? I'd look for them at Blick Art first, then at smaller stores. The markup at UO is just insane.

I agree that this stuff is way overpriced at UO - might be worth watching for clearance though!

@lemonadefish I totally agree the prices can be wacky at UO. However, I have found pretty awesome stuff there on clearance as well. Just for them to claim things are "out" and capitalize on the deals!
