The Wii is clearly a success for all age groups, young and old, and it is all because anyone can walk into a room and play. But as anyone that has worked in design and product development knows, coming up with something that seems so simple is definitely not.

While bathroom scales seem like a reasonable starting point for something that looks so much like one, it is actually the way that sumo wrestlers weigh themselves using two scales that really got the Wii balance board off the ground. Well, that and simply tweaking a scale to measure your body movements 60 times a second instead of 4 to 5 times a second.
