Pandora Internet Radio

We spend a lot of time online and at the same time really enjoy listening to music. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an internet radio station out there that really gets us going. Sure, you can find an online station for pretty much any genre, but as with traditional radio the song list is pretty much hit or miss, or for the most part miss. Pandora Internet Radio has changed this unfortunate situation by dynamically creating a personalized radio station that is tuned specifically to your musical tastes.

Based on the Music Genome Project, specifics such as melody, harmony, rhythm, instrumentation, orchestration and arrangement were analyzed and categorized into musical attributes. By selecting an artist that you like, other artists that exhibit the same musical attributs or "genes" are played for you as well. If you don't like the song that is suggested, you simply flag it using the 'guide us' button and Pandora continues to refine your station based on your feedback. From experience we have found Pandora to be quite accurate in suggesting artists and songs that we enjoy as well as introducing new ones that we likely would have never heard otherwise....and it does it all for free.

I like Pandora. However, recently I've been using Last.fm. It posts my latest playlist to my blog. Which reminds me: perhaps I should check and see if Pandora has the same feature.

It's an awesom service. Unfortunately, the RIAA is going to kill the service with the new online royalty rates. Hooray for corporate America.

Perhaps I'm not using it right, but I find that a single "search" entry produces about 5 hours of music that ten repeats...Is it just me?

I like lastfm too...you can tag things 'love' or 'ban' and i found once i'd tagged a few things the selections it played me were dead on what I was looking for.

I've been listening to Pandora all afternoon and into the evening, and I've only had one repeat. Thanks for the link!

I'm not a huge fan of playing music in the browser, since I use it while I work for other things.

I place my vote for Last.fm - I've found some amazing new artists through it, the tagging and "reccommend" features are awesome, and the "scrobbler" that you install on your machine to listen to iTunes or whatever you listen to when you're not listening to Last.fm ensures that your profile doesn't get out of sync with your taste.

Plus I've actually met some neat people through the social aspect of the site, and I am *so* not web 2.0. I'm a net hermit!
Give it a shot - it's also much prettier than pandora, at least on a Mac ;)

Oh yeah, I should mention that all the fun stuff on Last.fm costs money, and pandora doesn't - but I've been happily forking over the $3/mo for a long time!

It was Pandora that determined that everything I listen to ultimately leads back to early Depeche Mode. Everything.
