Wii and Google Maps: Run on the Street From the Comfort of Your Home

The Nintendo Wii has been an absolute success due to the fact that pretty much anyone can walk into a room and play. From young children to senior citizens it seems to have something for everyone. What we never expected was that it would turn into a home gym as well. The digital Bowflex. We asked you about it before and more than half said that it was just as good as going to the gym, and there is evidence that backs that up. Now we see the world of Wii exercising taking another step, a combination with Google street view.

Tokyo Jogging mashes up your Wiimote with Google maps street view to show your running through the streets. The faster your run, the quicker you move through the city. Still a little bit sluggish, but if they can get that sorted out this will be one cool application.

i think the wii fit is great and all for those who can't be bothered to go out an join a gym, or don't want to continually drop cash on a membership... i'm guilty of both. but that idea is just sad. go outside for a goddamn run on an actual street. if you really need to have a ticker showing how far you've gone, get the little nike insert and a pouch to attach it to your sneaker, and plug the little piece into your ipod, and there you go. christ.
