I've seen a lot of great design on this site but one thing that keeps bugging me: It seems that function, most of the time, follows form. Meaning, the design always out-trumps the true function of the space.

In this case, any designer who actually uses a tablet has to have it in front of the keyboard. It's very difficult to use a tablet in your lap. It needs to be on a stable surface. So, it's just not practical to have it over to the side like that. That tells me either a)the tablet is just for show or b)this shot is staged and the desk isn't a functional as it should be.

wilder212: I use a tablet and it sits on the side, not in front, so it's not necessarily a universal to have it upfront like you've mentioned. Also, I note that some people move out their tablet in front of them when they plan to use it for extended periods. Of course, some staging is going to take place when someone snaps a photo of their space to share, so let's be fair that this might just be an ideal shot too.

This is actually my workspace and it's working for me. I don't use the tablet daily, as this is a multi-functional computer. Right now we are in heavy design mode so the tablet is in front of the screen. The tablet never sits in my lap, I just scoot it in front of the screen, and when I'm done I move it and place the keyboard in front. Very simple, and functional for what I do.

This isn't my style; but I really do like the way everything hangs together in a balanced way and how crisp and clean it feels. That it's all been created from found space inside a laundry room just makes it brilliant.

My favorite is the huge metal magnet board, or "inspiration board". Beautifully done.
