Final Frame: The Cloud "Magnetic Floating Sofa

041709LevitateCloudsofa.jpgCloud is a sofa concept designed for ultra comfort and relaxation. The soft floating upper part is supported by the magnetic force generated by the bottom base. No matter if you want to work and sit with comfort or simply a power nap to release the stress, you can always enjoy your time to relax on the floating cloud. [via DVice via Yanko Design]

So this means I can finally "levitate" and chill playing music off of my external hardrive from my laptop? Um hello? Magnetic Fields?

Sadly, Cupajo is correct.

I'm really starting to get tired of these conceptual designs which cannot possibly be built. In the end, these aren't product competitions, they're just photoshop contests. Let's just skip the middlemen and link up some Worth1000 entries.

...of course, maybe I'm just being a bastard because nobody is giving me an award for my invisible weightless ring which makes you immortal, immune to all diseases, and fantastically attractive. I have another design for a ring which lets you fly and enables FTL travel, but I'm saving that one for the next award cycle.

Even if this did work (which it doesn't), it would require enormous, mind-boggling amounts of electricity (that I think would require a super-cooled or super-heated magnetic coil) and fry any electronics that got anywhere near it. Also, you would fall to the ground constantly, as there's nothing to keep the "cloud" from being repelled away from the platform. Also, if the "cloud" managed to flip over and expose the opposite pole of its magnet to the base, you would be crushed between the painfully hot/cold plate and the cloud seating portion.

Wow, so can we convince the Massturds of the Universe on Wall Street to run out and each buy one of these chairs for $1 million or whatever a pop? I'd love to see all of them crushed between a painfully hot/cold plate and a cloud. Maybe then they'd know how the other 99.999% of the country felt when their scams came crashing down on everyone else's head.

That kind of thing only works in Dubai. :)

I wonder what would happen if someone pushes me really really hard while I am sleeping out through a 50 story window. Would I levitate and be able to glide back into my window like on the Jetsons cartoon?
