A Simple Media Center With Seamless Surround Sound

102809_tf_surroundspeakers1.jpgWe love the sound we get from our surround sound speakers. But with the curse of being a renter, it's always tough to lay out the speakers and still keep everything looking fresh...

This shot we found on Flickr shows us that we need to stop worrying about hiding the speakers and just let them become another element in our media-center vignette.

In this shot from Flickr user me*jo, we see a (what else?) mid-century modern TV hutch accessorized with trinkets that complement a neutral color palette. Among those trinkets helping to frame the TV are a few of a set of gray surround sound speakers, including the subwoofer.

When you're willing to spend a buck and intentionally choose speakers that mesh with your decor, camouflaging them becomes a non-issue. when you're ready to buy, think about not only color, but also the size and shape of the speakers.

to me, those really over power the look of the media center. Maybe if there was a larger tv to offset it, but they just seem visually overpowering to the console, tv, the things on the console, everything.

I think it looks good. I want that credenza though. :)

The credenza is from West Elm. I don't think they carry it any more. It was the one piece of furniture from them that I regret not buying.

Who can actually watch TV on that tiny monitor?

wilder212: it all depends on how far the couch is from the monitor. The monitor I watch movies on is even smaller than that, but the couch is only about 6 feet away.
