Flickr Finds: Custom Goldfish Chumby

We blogged about the Chumby back in 2007 and while the functionality has evolved since then, the bland looks have remained pretty much the same. If you go to the Chumby site, you have a choice of 6 colors... but not exactly the most vibrant 6 colors to choose from. So when we came across Sara Antoinette Martin's Flickr stream showing off a custom painted limited edition Chumby we thought to ourselves, that's more like it.

Furni has done something similar before with their Alba clock, except the artist in that case would be you. This piece of tech on the other hand is a series of 5 hand painted Chumby's by NY based artist Sara Antoinette Martin, and is called the Goldfish. Click through the pics to see the concept sketches and in progress Chumby's or head over to Sara's blog to read more.

It's a nice idea - but just doesn't quite do it for me. Mine has been sitting unplggd on my night stand for months. Poor wi-fi reception (really poor) and just a tad too clunky interface have forced me back to my old 80s black and wood grain digital jobbie - heck it may come back around in style again eventually. Also - I sorta came to the realization that I'd rather wake up to NPR instead of radioparadise after all. Now I love RP but I guess I wanted my news stuff in the morning instead - and I could do that much more reliably with the old clock radio.
