It's a sad fact that I don't own a single holiday song, in any format. Just this week, however, my 4 year old has started demanding xmas songs every night at bedtime, so I've had to dredge them up from the dark recesses of my childhood brain, rusty, off key, and with incomplete lyrics. I really need to buy some xmas tunes and I appreciate all the suggestions here - Bruce and Eartha now on my list. My son, of course, is most interested in "Rudolph." My own childhood favorite, which I'll probably have to inflict on him: "A Christmas Together, with John Denver and the Muppets." Oh yeah.
Definitely white, shiny timeless white, to match my other white accents (which mostly don't exist yet, but we're getting there), brighten up my dark-ish living room, and offset my darker wood furniture.
Did I mention that I currently don't have a stereo of any kind, and I've been playing cd's on my crappy tv/dvd player? I'm just sayin'...

I would play "I'll be home for Christmas" (the original Bing Crosby version) because we just moved 12 hours (14 if driving with the baby) away from my family and friends and we won't be able to drive down to Missouri if the snow is as bad as predicted. We always sit around the record player in my Grandma's family room and listen to great classics like that. It would be great to carry on an updated version of the tradition with our son (especially since it's his first Christmas).

We've just moved into a house in which the previous tenants felt it was a good idea to spray paint the cabinets with tremclad. So, a lovely new black sound system would spruce up the kitchen quite a bit (with two babies under two and at the tail end of a massive international move we don't have the money, time or energy to fix the cabinets at the moment). And, the song would have to be "Fairytale of New York" by the Pogues - still the best Holiday song in my opinion.

Well first I'd make the most of the sound quality by popping some Transiberian Orchestra on. so walk in to my newly painted living room (inpsiration courtesty of the Fall Colours contest, thank you very much), sip a tumbler of Hangar One straight with a twist of lime, and relax to the mellow sweet Geneva beats. Let winter howl - we'll be just fine inside.

We'll be playing, "Do They Know it's Christmas" which was sung by Band Aid in 1984 to raise money for Ethiopian famine relief. What's not to LOVE about the '80's and raising money for an important charity? We'd love the Geneva in RED!! Happy Holidays!!
view allief's profile
I'd be listening to my favorite holiday song "What Are You Doing News Year's Eve?" by Ella Fitzgerald - on a red one!
view GIN's profile
Red, definitely. Would go perfectly with Eartha Kitt singing "Santa Baby".
view AlisaAydin's profile
Just one song? Well, if we had the WHITE system, I guess we could play "I'll be Home for Christmas" on repeat all the time, but it'll most likely just be our "25 Classic Christmas Songs" ringing through the house.
view leanneabe's profile
I'd like to see Red, and hear Gil Scott-Heron's "Angeldust"
view tcbabbitt's profile
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Judy Garland.
And Adam Sandler's Chanukah Song.
On my snazzy red Geneva!
view ratphooey's profile
I'd play "Baby, it's cold outside" because it always puts me in a festive and cheery mood with thoughts of snow, fireplaces, warm mugs and blankets. (And I can keep playing this song after the holidays into January.)
I love the red one - it would be a great way to add some color to my apartment.
view choby's profile
i'll take mine in black, please.
and for the song: well, NOT that stupid adam sandler thing that gets played this time of year and, springsteen fan that i am, i think i'll still take a pass on "santa claus is coming to town". i think i'll go with 'merry christmas baby' by charles brown.
view newdad's profile
I have to also go with the Vince Guaraldi Trio with "Christmas Time is Here" from "A Charlie Brown Christmas". And red, since Snoopy's dog house is red.

Christmas Eve/Sarajevo by Trans-Siberian Orchestra
In White please!
view Colorsofspring's profile
Not strictly a Christmas song, but Two Thousand Miles by Chrissy Hynde always makes me think of Christmas and snow.
And that red is *amazing*. I need that lucky color around my place the way lately!!!
view Anthy's profile
My favorite christmas songs are from "It's a Charlie Brown Christmas!" So I'm sure that would be playing.
A black or red one would be great!
view Kerstin's profile
oh i would go with the red model!
what to listen to, i think any of the Sufjan Stevens Songs for Christmas discs would be great for some cookie making.
view lew!'s profile
The Pogues...Fairytale of New York would be playing on my RED Geneva Sound System!
view alynnl's profile
hmm...one in red would certainly make our kitchen cheerier.

Blue Christmas by Elvis on a black sound system. What an awesome Christmas present!
view ladybug5's profile
First song I'd play: "Come On! Let's Boogey to the Elf Dance!" by Sufjan Stevens.
How difficult to choose- black, red, and white are all lovely. Red is so striking, I'd probably go with red.
view starsinjenseyes's profile
I would play "You're a mean one, Mr Grinch" and I suppose I'd have to go with red as the perfect player color to match the song..... :)
Happy Holidays!

I'll take white, please. I'll be playing our all-time family favorite "We Need a Little Christmas" by the Golddiggers.
view missuswayne's profile
one in black would be perfect for the emo Bright Eyes christmas CD!
view skalobster11's profile
Oh, pretty red. Please!

Happy Holidays. I would enjoy white but would take any of the players. I would play I'll Be Home for Christmas because a friend of my family wrote the song and have Frank Sinatra sing it because he was in the Tommy Dorsey Band with my dad. :)

This is perfect... I've been looking at these types of systems for years but never got one.
Perhaps it's not original, but I'm going to have to go with BLACK and David Bowie & Bing Crosby singing "Little Drummer Boy".
view AngelMonkey's profile
The overwrought but still somehow brilliant "Do They Know Its Christmas" - it's got something for everyone! Boy George! Bono! Simon LeBon! And a nice reminder to feed the world, no matter how dated said reminder may be.
White would be lovely :)
view helloat's profile
I'd play Feliz Navidad!!!
And I'd like it in WHITE, por favor! :o)
view susamu's profile
Vince Guaraldi's classic A Charlie Brown Christmas would be playing out of a RED one for me!
view Chris M's profile
I'm going with "Christmas in Hollis" by Run-DMC. It's got good beats and, one of their moms was in the video. It's also one of the few Christmas songs that doesn't make my teeth hurt.
I'd like the Geneva Sound System in red, please. That picture is irresistible.
view hindulovegod's profile
We have a Christmas CD that I think we got at the grocery store, years ago. It includes some totally cheesetastic, disco-esque versions of holiday classics. I would love to hear that CD blaring out of a white Geneva Sound System.
view heps's profile
Oh so so purty.
I'd most definitely play "im getting nuthin' for christmas" on the white. Such a fun song about a little boy who continues to get in trouble because he can't stop being a kid. Love it!
view milk tea's profile
As a kid, I was cast-- and *repeatedly,* I might add-- in our local theater's production of "Scrooge!" I worked my way up from 2nd Smallest Cratchit Child to Eldest Cratchit Child to Head Ruffian to Fezziwig Party Guest (With grown-up clothes, even!) over the years. So for me, Christmas is inextricably entwined with the music of Leslie Bricusse and the score of "Scrooge!". If I had the white one (white, like the snows falling on Camden Town, or the ethereal gown of the Ghost of Christmas Past), I'd be recalling eight years' worth of "step-ball-change, turn, kick!" in my living room while singing "Father Christmas."
Or perhaps "Thank You Very Much" would be more appropriate?
God bless us every one!

i feel it in my fingers, i feel it in my toes, Christmas is all around me... from "Love actually"... and it has to be REd.
view gabiushka's profile
Ooh, Slade's "Merry Christmas Everybody"! I'd blast it out of a beautiful black Geneva Sound System.
view el192's profile
i would play "just like christmas" by low on a red geneva sound system. i think the drums would sound nice...if the the system is as good as its $500 price tag suggests!
view earlybird's profile
I'd be so happy with any color, but black would likely be my first choice. Oh I so want to hear, "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas," -- I love Chris Isaak's version -- on this while making lots of cookies. what a great Christmas it would be! :)
view MGRaz's profile
I'll be playing "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" for you!
I'd LUV the black model!
HUGz! Jules
view Julee's profile
Was going to pick Simon LeBon's part of "do they know it's christmas?" but someone already said that. I'd just have to go with anything by Dead Moon because holiday music is just so terrible.
Red please.

White and "White Christmas"

Skid Row's "Jingle Bells" from the Monster Ballads Xmas CD, or course. On a white Geneva Sound System.

I absolutely love this.. very sleek.. and I love it in Red. I would listen to My Favorite Things by Diana Ross, I think.
view chitsuen's profile
I would love it in red.
I will be playing Deck The Halls.
Thank you!

I'm not much for religion, but I can get down right chokey about the reverence given mother and child in Christmas hymns. In that tradition, the first holiday song I would play is "Bring a Torch. Jeanette, Isabella" by Sufjan Stevens.
"Ah... ah... beautiful is the mother. Ah... ah... beautiful is her son."
and
"Quietly come and whisper, hush...hush, peacefully now he sleeps."
I think the lo-fi popping and the sweet simplicity of the song would sound just right on a black Geneva.
view gluestick's profile
Black or white, baby.
The song I'd be blastin' is Santa Claus Go Straight To The Ghetto, by James Brown!
"Tell em James Brown sent you!"
Yeah!

"All I want for Christmas is You" Mariah Carey
She was in good back in the day, and right now, all i want for christmas is that system. In black please. :o)
view CaptolsStar's profile
Hard Candy Christmas by Dolly Parton, and I'd LOVE it in red or black. Heck, I'm not picky :)
view mzpaw's profile
If I win this sound system I'd like to play " Where do you go to(my lovely)" from the soundtrack of Darjeeling Limited over and over again. Red, white, black? Definitely RED!
view Pokee2's profile
The red would match my countertops as I'm listening to the White Christmas soundtrack.
view sillyLN's profile
The soundtrack from Elf would be playing. Specifically "Baby, It's Cold Outside" by Leon Redbone and Zooey Deschanel.
Black please.
view yeahjules's profile
I will be baking to the sounds of Sufjan Stevens' Christmas album. (And maybe something from Mariah Carey's eponymous holiday debut as well...)
I would love to own this in black!!!
