a dress for my partner to wear in the wedding party in a friend's upcoming wedding. I may have bit off more than I can chew.

I'll be tackling all kinds of home stuff, after moving to a new apt in the fall. Duvet covers, curtains, pillows, and who knows I might even try my hand at clothing.

Onesies and shirts and whatnot for my new baby.

My wife makes "Cute Dolls" with an archaic sewing machine she inheritied from her grandmother. It knows two things: one stitch and mangling fabric.

A new machine would make way for myriad more cute stuffed things.

I have a costume contest I'm going to in about six months, and I had a really elaborate costume planned (18th century French silk dress with steampunk overtones). Realizing the insane amount of work it was about to be subjected to, my very old sewing machine finally threw its proverbial hands up and completely quit on me! A pretty new Singer would be just what the doctor ordered. :)

I would be sewing all my own Tribal/Gothic Bellydance costumes rather than buying them all.

There are a few fabric patterns that I have coveted for a while but haven't purchased because I don't have anything to sew them with. First up would be new curtains, then possibly a slipcover for my couch!

So not to give away too much information but I have a little problem wherein anytime I squat down my pants split in the crotch and seam on the rear. So it would be nice to be able to just sew them back up rather than pitch them out. Hook me up!

I'd like to make a new duvet cover for my bed. Something a little more masculine than the things I have found so far.

My wife is a stay-at-home mom who is just starting a small craft business to bring in some extra income. She's using an old sewing machine that's been handed down through the generations, so having a shiny, new one that can do all these functions would help her get going in a big way.

curtains since I can't seem to find any long and wide enough. a skirt. but mostly I want to fix/modify clothing so that I can use all my stuff longer instead of buying new.

I splurged in New York at Mood fabrics and bought fantabulous fabric that deserves better treatment than that from the sewing machine I got for high school graduation. I want to sew a dress that inspires envy.

And hem the pants of loved ones. Too many people can't hem their damn pants and are loathe to get them tailored. Look better, people - I judge.

I want it for my live in girlfriend, she has been trying to start a clothing company for babies and puppies (Matching Clothes obviously!) and has to drive over to my parents apartment to use my mom's sewing machine from the 70's every time she wants to try out a new design. A machine of her own would really help her get going.

Also I would love to try and make some designer cord cozies to try and fashionably contain all of my wires! Just think Unplggd could even do a story on them!

It seems there a few guys on here posting on behave of their wife. We were just married and have moved into a small apartment where she has dreams of hanging her own curtains and sewing an innumerable number of pillows. Sadly, all she has to work with is a worn-down machine from the 70's that we picked up at a garage sale for $1. But with this, she would be one happy woman!

My poor bedroom has been undecorated for a year now. This will be the first time that I have lived in an apartment for more than 12 months in the past 7 years; its time to celebrate. I will be sewing curtains for the windows, a complimentary duvet cover, and a tent like canopy to add a little romance to the room. I have no sewing machine so its either the curvy or a rental.

Ohh, this would be a godsend! I make felt freak toys (...yes, I know) and at this point they're entirely created by hand. My hand. Which gets very tired after an evening of sewing. I'd love to have a machine I could use for some more complex designs - not to mention adding some new clothes to my wardrobe!

OMG...what couldn't I do with this Singer Curvy. I have a 10-month-old grand-daughter that I could sew clothes for from now until she gets married. And not just simple clothes either. This machine makes it possible to make tailored pieces. I could make her crib sets that she needs now as well as coordinating curtains for her room.
And it would come in handy during these hard times to make baby blankets that I could donate to the local women's shelter for those that have left abusive relationships with their children and are having to start all over again. It would also be wonderful to make some homemade gifts for the holidays that were more personal. In truth, the projects would be endless and only limited by my imagination.

Definitely a replacement cover for a couch I cannot afford to replace !!

We've got a great mid-century chair in our bedroom that's poorly recovered, my wife (the sewer) would put together an excellent replacement cover.

I've been dreaming of John Robshaw curtains for the bedroom in our new apartment, but they're a bit expensive. Instead, I found yards of discounted silk organza that I'd love to make into sheers - only I have no sewing machine! I would put this Singer to good use for sure... and then submit my before/after to Apartment Therapy, of course.

My wife will be making burp clothes, whilst I will be modifying t-shirts. Not quite Project Runway material, but a noble effort nonetheless.

I have some great vintage fabric I'd like to turn into pillow covers. Oh, and there are a bunch of things that need hemming and other repairs.

I could actually learn to sew and teach my daughters as well! We could sew curtains for our house and make their own matching comforters!

There are a couple home projects that need to be worked on like new curtains and throw pillows. I also used to make plush toys, but I haven't because my old singer (1978 old) is dying and I can't get it to work anymore :(

I'd make cloth diapers and related stuff - covers, wipes, etc.

QUILTING! I am a quilter, and while I piece on my machine, I mostly hand-quilt. I've tried machine-quilting on my antique Singer but it just can't handle it. I'd love to be able to machine quilt and this machine looks like it could handle that with ease! My antique machine is sturdy but all mechanical. I'd love to try out an electronic machine to expand my sewing tasks and maybe get back into making clothing.

I would make some curtains!

I would grab some of the patterns from my mother's collection (from the '50s and '60s) and make some of the dresses & suits. There's something much more feminine about the old patterns than there is nowawadays...

I would also probably make plush toys, which I haven't attempted making since sixth grade Home Economics class.

I would definitely sew for my granddaughters. Make some clothes for them and then a quilt. My sewing machine is over 20 years old and definitely out of date with all the new features offered on the new machines.

I don't know how to sew. That hasn't stopped me from starting more than one project that requires sewing- I've begun a bunch of reused fabric birds to make a mobile for a friend's baby, started a throw for chilly evenings, and bought yards of fabric with the intention of making window coverings for my roommate whose room gets too much light in the mornings. Eventually, I'll take a class and finish these projects!

I've been putting off buying a sewing machine forever... but I'm moving and now I REALLY need one... but I'm trying to stick to a budget! I would use this machine to sew curtains, pillows, and a couch slipcover to spiff up my new living room! Not to mention to make bags and pillows as gifts for friends!

I will be mending clothes, hemming flannel wash cloths (because I don't like those thick ones), and sewing denim bags, which I make from the legs of old blue jeans.

After the dust from that settles, I am getting married in a couple of months, and there is plenty to be made for the outdoor wedding. Backdrops, table clothes, a baby giraffe costume for some humor at the wedding.

I'm in the process of making a shirt for myself with my super old Viking. It's not too shabby, but the stitching is a bit limited.

First up, hem jeans my old machine is too wimpy to get through. Then add some non-crooked, contransting topstitching to a few bags I've started. And some stuffed squirrels for a wedding I'm going to later this year.

CLOTHES! My boyfriend has lost a bunch of weight and I'd like to make dresses and other cool things out of his old clothes. Also, I'm currently hand sewing a quilt, a machine would help me finish a whole lot quicker.

I just started sewing again recently. I purchased a really cheap sewing machine for $99.00. It is really just a basic no frills machine so I would love to win this Singer. I just bought my first home all by myself, and I need to make curtains for my house. I also really want to make something for my first niece, Khloe, who was just born on July 16th. I have so much cool vintage fabric that is just screaming to be used!

We didn't have much money when we were little, but the gifts my mom sewed for as were the best gifts ever. With a lovely little machine like that, I would definitely be hooking up with my good friend Shelly and make lots of fun things. I also have several patterns and lots of fabric that has been waiting for a machine that can handle them. We've gone through a number of machines here at home, most of which broke prematurely. I think both my mother and I would enjoy having such a pretty little machine at our house.

OH the dream! I'd start with curtains for the whole house, move onto skirts, and finally start work on my halloween costume. Baby clothes as needed (so many friends having children lately and are trying to stay organic).

I could go on forever.

In my efforts for a 'greener living' I love to bicycle whenever and wherever I can. With this machine I would sew myself a nice backpack for biking- egg shaped with a cross-chest strap and buckles.

I also like to recycle. I would definitely incorporate some of my own vintage fabrics for a unique and super-cute pack!

I'm a quilter and my next project is a queen size quilt for my mom. Right now I use a 3/4 size sewing machine but this would make it a lot easier to do bed size quilts.

A sad tale of a girl having to leave her beautiful antique sewing machine (too big and heavy) in the town she grew up in to move to the big city. There is nothing like sewing therapy. Falling in love with some shiny thing in a store window-that one would have to spend their entire paycheck on to bring home-being inspired to make it one's self-wearing it proudly-and receiving many complements on it.

My next project? It would have to be finishing a dress that has been cut out and pinned together - but whose many layers have disastrously altered the bottom tension of my poor battered machine. It would be a great help to have a fancy new machine.

I have tons of tshirts saved from my childhood--soccer shirts, softball shirts, embarrassing concert shirts (backstreet boys & TLC to name a couple) that I don't wear anymore. However, I inherited my dad's pack-rat gene and won't throw them away. Instead I'd like to make a picnic blanket quilt, which I would definitely use.

I also have several yards of fabric I bought with the intension of making pillows, but am loathe to hand sew all the edges. The couple of cubic feet the sewing machine would take up would be nothing compared to the amount of fabric & tshirts that are in seemingly permanent hibernation, waiting for a sewing machine to turn them into something shiny and new!

I've never been able to afford a new sewing machine, so I have always used second-hand machines, either hand-me-downs or thrift store finds, to make curtains, quilts, bags, original clothes and other 'textile arts'. If I got my hands on a sewing machine I wasn't constantly having to wrestle from the brink of extinction, I would finally tackle some of the vintage clothes refittings and delicate dressmaking that I’ve been too afraid to attempt with my raggedy old machines.

holy cow there are a lot of sew-ers out there! I would use this for some major clothing alterations. I have an older machine too (much like others on the board) and have never mastered how to do a lot of things because the instructions are long gone. I had a baby this year so (sew?) I would also use this items for him.

Having made at least a dozen sets of curtains since my Grandmothers machine died all using heat set tape, the first thing I would do is sew these curtains so that I could wash them. I would also make pillows and start making Christmas items like I used to every year. I do miss sewing and being able to make items for the house without having to spend loads of money.

To integrate into my art! i go to the Southern Graphics annual printmaking conference and would love to build my portfolio with sewn book/zine covers and am trying to diversify my artmaking with three-dimensional sewn goods. Selling and showing handmade goods with prints on them would help get my art and name out there, especially at places like the conference and on etsy! love working in textiles and love to sew!

i am a self learning of upholstery. but i cannot take on any projects that take a lot of sewing because i have a 15 yr. old

I would most definitely sew some of my old t-shirts to be formfitting, finish the zipper on a dress I've been doing on and off for two years, repair some cushions for an animal shelter where I volunteer, and make some pretty drapes to replace the ugly plastic shades in my apartment!

My daughter Tess, is turning 8 on tuesday August 12th. The only thing she has requested for her birthday is a sewing machine. Right now, she spends much of her free time making clothes for all of her stuffies. She hand sews and hot glues EVERYTHING. She really would like to progress to making her own clothes, which I think is really wonderful. She is DIY, pure and authenticated, up and coming. She would absolutley LOVE this sewing machine and what a dream to win it for her birthday!

I bought some fabric that looks like newsprint and I want to sew curtains for my basement windows since they're an odd size. I also want to make a Halloween costume for my daughter this year, I saw a great witch costume pattern at the fabric store. My current sewing machine is old and cranky; it doesn't always work when I want it to.

Target had some Dwell Studio napkins that I bought up that I plan on making a frilly apron with. I'd love to sew this on a newer machine, and not on "the traveler!"

I'd finally be able to use the fabric I've been buying for the past couple of years to make drapes, pillow covers, and a sofa slipcover. Yay!

I would first take a class on sew w/ my 9y/o daughter. Then I would make a removable bed skirt for my platform bed. She would make stuffed animals and clothes.

The last time she tried to make a dress, she use an old skirt of mine, cut it up the back to make it smaller then use school glue to make it stick. Waled in her room and she was sitting still on her chair, I asked why, she explained what she did and that she was waiting for the glue to dry. I just smiled, shook my head and left the room. There are other unfortunate toy and clothes making stories, she really needs a sewing machine! heeheehee!

I've started teaching sewing and design classes to kids in my area- My current machine is not long for this world, so the Singer Curvy would be a wonderful replacement. I'd actually be able to show them how to sew through heavier fabric, add design elements and to truly personalize their designs. They are so cute and eager to learn and so proud of themselves when they complete a project- it's awesome.

I'd like to do mostly projects with reusing material I already own, or from scraps my neighbors have. I'm all about having a minimal impact on the environment.

I would love to make the fabulous shift style dresses like they wore in the 60's and 70's. They are perfect for the summer and you only need to worry about one thing to wear as opposed to skirt and top or slack.

Pillows and curtains are other items I would like to tackle if I were to win this great sewing machine.

Curtains for our new house!

Since we just found out yesterday that we are pregnant, (go 08-8-08!) we intend to make baby clothes. Specially around Halloween it would be great to make some costumes of our favorite animal, the penguin.

I don't sew but my husband does. My daughter wants to learn so that is the first thing he would do~teach her.

The bedroom in the apartment that I am about to move into is too small for the closet door, which swings out. I want to remove the door and sew curtains to act as new closet doors. Oh, and I want to learn to sew.

i'm cheap. i check the craigslist free ad for project ideas and supplies because i want to craft, but want to reuse, recycle and re... spend less money.
so, i recently answered an ad for a painter who was loking to paint some fabric - i had a bunch of old, drab fabric that i let him use - when he gives them back to me, i will let the fabric tell me what i should do with it... so far, i've been mostly upholstering... i have been horrible at making clothes (although i am still going to keep trying - even made my own ducttape dressform:

i digress... do you think this machine can handle all kinds of materials? what i mean is, thick layers of fabric maybe... i made a cushion for my om's bay window settee (my first work piping!) and when it was time to put that stuff together i kept breaking needles because my fabric layers (4 layers altogether with the piping!- was i doing it wrong?). i was actually curious if this machine might have a larger space between the presser foot and the thingy on the bottom that pushes the fabric forward... i have more questions, but i'll take a momentary breather and await feedback. happy sewing everyone and everyone's wives!!!

I have tons of cute fabric at home and no sewing machine so this one was meant to be mine. I have made decorative pillows, a shower courtain, dish cloths, but I would like to make:

* An extra large grocery bag (got tired of all the mini ones)
* To fix all the pants I have that are too long for me.

Maybe I'll get started on that quilt project I bought all the materials for. And my husband feels loved when I custom-make his pillowcases...

Oh, man, what WOULDN'T I do with that machine? I had to sell my old sewing machine before our cross-country move, and now that we have a house I'm missing it. Our windows would have curtains, all the ragged hems and tiny tears in our clothes would be repaired, and the big stack of "I Can't Believe I Actually Spent Money On This" clothes would be turned into cute clothes for my friends' new babies and my toddler. My husband would also go to work looking far less like a street urchin in someone else's clothes.

I'd tailor all the clothes in my closet that are too big to wear but are new.

I would make chair pads for our "new" salvaged dining chairs!

My mother was the only one of four children who had professional sewing lessons growing up. She is the only one of four who now DOESN'T SEW!! She also didn't teach her daughters how to sew... so I am yearning to learn! I'd love this machine to make several things in my house: a window seat cover and bench, a crib set, and the big project... turning my wedding dress into a basinett cover and a christening outfit! I'd love to prove to my mother that those sewing lessons she didn't use should have been passed down to me!

A reversible penant banner with letters on each triangle. One side would read Happy Birthday and would replace the hideous Party City banner we currently reuse. The other side would say Welcome Home, Dad. My husband's deployed to Iraq twice now and has another trip coming up soon.

My involvement with our community theatre will allow me to work more directly with costuming our shows. I recently directed a show in which NOBODY could sew... so I ended up sewing costumes myself until 4:30 one morning before rehearsal began.
My mission is to teach some of the younger students to sew... by means of workshops and hands-on learning. I'd like to help the next generation "get the bug" for learning how fulfilling (and necessary!!) it is to know how to sew - or alter- or embellish, etc. - a garment. Or pillows, or home dec, or whatever!! So many ways to use that knowledge... I'm excited to see the different workshops etc that I could make available if I had access to a great sewing machine like that.

I have been collecting fabrics and saving t-shirts to make memory quilts and little projects for gifts. A newlywed teacher who gave up a public school job in order to teach preschool for Head Start, I need to cut corners in any way possible, and I know that having a solid sewing machine would let me make something nice without spending a lot of money.

Well, here's what I've made just in 2008 with a 30-year old Sears Kenmore that only sews straight and zigzag: three patchwork baby quilts for pregnant co-workers, two futon covers made with upholstery fabric to match the wood inlay pattern in my Edwardian bedroom suite. used one bolt of upholstery fabric to finish off the back of furniture in my new studio apartment so that i could "define" sections in the apartment. Also made laundry bags, kitchen cabinet dividers, placemats, pot holders. I plan on making quilted handbags for a close friend, a new quilt for myself, quilted wall hanging for my office at work, bathrobe, and more...

My singer that I got used from an Estate sale just broke last week :( Right in the middle of a redesign of my bedroom. When i was in school years ago. we had a class called home ec and i would always use the sweing machines to make clothes amd stuff animals. Then at home i still continued to use my moms sewing machine and make more clothes for myself and family members and i loved it. I felt good doing this and would live to do this again. My Mom gave the old sewing machine to another one of my sisters and she wouldnt give it to me and i was along with mom knew how to use it. So I would make some stuffed animals like dolphins and shirts.

the first thing i will do is finish the quilt i'm working on. the sewing machine i have (my mother-in-laws from the 70's) looks awesome, but doesn't work so great. it has no slow speed, so it's only fast and faster. it doesn't make it easy!

Oh, I'd make so many things---pillows, curtains, a duvet cover, doll clothes for my daughter, simple clothing for me...

So much I don't even know where to begin! A curtain door for the baby's room, some tote bags for my friends, and some new throw pillows for the sofa would be on the top of the list.

oh how my couch desperately needs a slipcover - and my curtains need a trim. But, the #1 use of this machine would be for clothing. Short women do a lot of hemming - and how my hand hurts after a day of shopping followed by a full night of hemming with my sad little needle and thread. Not only do I long to let out the creative vibes with more than an iron and some hemming tape, but I'd love to be able to go shopping and not dread the hours I'll spend hemming my pants and skirts if the store doesn't cater to the petite.

I need pants hemmed and some of our comforters need stitched up because the stuffing is coming out.

I know this is going to sound a little silly and was certainly something that I mentioned just the other day. I have a dog who LOVES to dress up and all the attention she gets. She's a pug so that kind of explains it. I've bought her several things, but know I could make things myself that are more original as well as cute. So, making doggie outfits would be my first project if I won.

My sewing machine is getting up there in age. I am 45 and it was a gift from my father when I was 13. Do the math. I would love a new machine so I could give my old one to my daughter to learn on. I think I would sew some curtains for my house. I have odd shaped windows and have never been happy with the ones I have.

My current sewing machine is almost 15 years old and has only a straight and zig-zag stitch option. I would use it to make a winter coat -- I'm not sure my current machine could handle the thickness of the fabric!

I just took an upholstery class which, for my projects, also became a sewing class. It's not as hard as it looks. I have childhood memories of my mother cursing the bobbin. I vowed to never sew. I have 6 children for whom I sew everything from clothes to bed linens. We are homeschoolers, and I would love to teach the girls to sew on this machine.

My first project would be some "Pumpkin Pants" that my son wants to wear for Halloween this year.

I myself wouldn't do any thing with it, but my wife has always wanted a great machine to sew a family quilt to hand down in the family.

My daughter loves for me to make her, her doll, and myself matching dresses, which we wear to church. My daughter is 4 and takes her doll everywhere we go. I also make matching shirts for my husband and my son, my son is 6. They are not exact matches, example, I make we three ladies dresses in different styles but the same colors. Or I will make her shirt and her dolls shirts in the same color but different design, and make my shirt the same color as the skirts, and make her and her dolls skirt the same color as my shirt. Same with my husband and son. I do the Garth Brooks style a lot, with the lapels and sleeves different colors than the body of the shirt. With my husband and son I make them the same style but sleeves and body different colors, example, if Dad's sleeves are black and the body of the shirt green, I make my sons sleeves green and the body of the shirts black. My family and I enjoy the compliments and the attention we receive. I have to admit it makes me proud to be asked how and where in the world we are always finding matching clothes! My family proudly admits they are handmade.

I am newly pregnant, so this is a perfect time to use up my fabric stash on anything baby-related that can be sewn rather than purchased.... I'm picturing baby comforter and bumpers, burp cloths, stroller blankets, maybe clothes and toys if I'm feeling really confident.

I would love to own a new sewing machine. In the past, I've had to borrow my mom's really old one. I love the idea of the laser sight -- I can't sew a straight line on my own! A Singer Curvy would be HEAVEN!

I just bought a house, a fixer upper. I have the barest minimum in a studio apartment to move there. Not even a bed, I've been sleeping on an air mattress for the last 3 years. I own 3 chairs (picked up from the roadside one winter) and a plastic folding table. Now that I have the house I've been picking up furniture at Freecycle.com. Lots of that needs repairs, too, but that's okay. But a sewing machine would sure make it a LOT easier!

If I had one of these bad boys I'd be sewing up a storm. I have an old, 1950 Montgomery Ward sewing machine that I bought for $29 at a pawn shop. It has seen its day, it only works when it wants to, and when it doesn't, I just get so aggrivated. I would love, love one of these Singer Curvy's. If I had one, I would sew my daughter's first Halloween costume. I'd also make some curtains for the kitchen, dining room and office so I can walk around freely (naked) again! It's been a long time! Frankenclothing--so many of my (mostly thrifted, occasionally gifted) pieces of clothing are wearing out physically without wearing out their welcome, and I'd like to take bits and pieces and make entirely new things. Also, we had a Marimekko store open here recently where you can buy any current Marimekko fabric and sew your own curtains, etc. to match the Marimekko accessories they have in stock. So I'd totally deck out my pad with bold prints and curtains and pillows.

MY old Singer gave out a few months ago right after I had finished cutting and tabling a number of pairs of valences. I have been meaning to get a new one, but in the meantime have been sewing, little by little, by hand.-a slow and painful process. Maybe there was a reason I put off buying one?
