Good Questions: A 22" LCD Articulated Wall Mount

072408_an_lcd_wallmount.jpgReader Kim asks:

I'm looking for recommendations for an articulated wall mount for my 22" Samsung LCD TV. My tv lives in a media/office closet across from my sofa. I'd like the tv to rest against the wall when not in use and extend out (I don't mean a tilt mount) over the desktop area for optimal viewing. In addition to articulating or "cantileving," the mechanism must be easy to adjust.

Kim has included a bunch of already good picks, but thought we'd open it up to our readers for other recommendations.

  1. Chief FWB-110 Height-Adjustable Wall Mount
  2. Omnimount CLS-P LCD Cantilever Mount
  3. Omnimount Black Architectural Series Small Flat Panel Cantilever Wall Mount

We personally like the Chief wall mount because we've used one in our offices before, but we've yet to try the Ominimount brand. Any takers?

Why spend that much money on those brands? I highly recommend Monoprice, and found something similar to what you're looking for:

Either way, look around, see what else they have. I bought a ton of cable & a mount for my 40" LCD, and everything works great. I spent around $120 for items that would have totaled over $600 if I went to Circuit City, Amazon, Best Buy, etc. Great customer service too. Seriously worth the money.

none of them really work smooth when adjusting . .
usually a battle of sorts ..

I got an articulated mount for a 40" Samsung and paid $125 at Sams Club (on line). The ones for smaller TV's where a lot less.

I have this one holding a 24" display. It's very sturdy.

I highly recommend Monoprice, too. Very cheap and very good quality.

Thanks for the ideas. I ended up choosing the omni-mount for $119, minus 10% off coupon. It extends 15" (the $9 option suggested above doesn't extend-- it only pivots), plus the depth of the TV (about 3"), putting it just past my 16" shelves when fully extended.

It was very easy to install and articulates smoothly. Yay! I was really pleased with myself and happy that I didn't have to ask for help.

My only complaint is that after I installed it, I noticed that the tv isn't 100% level -- the tv is canted about 2 degrees. After reviewing my installation job with a level and checking all the adjustable joints I tracked the problem down to this: the mounting holes on the back of the TV aren't level. And I can't do much about that unless I take the tv back.

hmpf.
