Good Questions: Battery Powered Table Lamps

080408_tf_luaulight01.jpgJulie has a question for us about getting light into her outlet challenged brownstone.

I've recently moved into a fantastic (but very old) brownstone in Brooklyn. It's beautiful, but there's one problem. Most of the rooms only have one outlet! I've gotten creative with some long extension cords, but I need more light. I've been searching for indoor battery operated table lamps, and I'm falling short. Any recommendations!?

Many thanks!
Julie

Hi Julie!

Good question. The first thing that comes to mind are any of the Candela lights (who are now owned by Oxo). We picked up the very first version of these back in 2002 and loved the versatility of having portable and wireless lighting both inside and out. Since it sounds like you are looking for a pretty substantial light source we would go with the Luau pictured above. If you looking more for some mood lighting then the demi-glow or flare might do the trick. Both are pictured below.

You will still have to find a plug to charge the lamps when not in use but at least you can replace stringing long lengths of extension cords with a power bar hidden behind a table or credenza.

Does anyone else have suggestions for Julie?

The sun jar (you can get it online at urban outfitters). It has a solar powered LED bulb, so no need to change the battery or bulb. They look like mason jars, which could be really cool or you could think on a creative way to display them. Hope this helps.
