"Dear Unplggd, my boyfriend and I are looking to save a few dollars here and there, and one of the most obvious places we can cut corners is to drop our landline and move over to a VOIP solution. Our friend has a cordless phone with integrated Skype options, but he's noted the sound quality is only fair and it tends to drop calls, something I never experience using Skype with their app on my computer. So I'm thinking a headset for Skype calls might be my best bet, and a cordless one so I can move about while using it. Does anyone have recommendations of which headset they feel works best with Skype and with OS X? Thanks in advance, Marissa."
Marissa, funny you send us this question right now as we're in the very same process of transitioning to a Skype only household. We have a Netgear Skype phone that exhibits the same dropped calls issue you've mentioned, so a headset has been a serious consideration in the last few days. Our initial choice was the moderately priced Freetalk Wireless headset, but we've read about some sound issues with OS X that is yet to be resolved. The other model wireless model in consideration is the Logitech 981 ClearChat, which operates in the 2.4 GHz frequency with a USB dongle and noise canceling microphone. But we're hoping a few readers out there can give us personal recommendations to aid both of us in our choice in headsets for Skype.
My wife and I are in the same process. I looked into the all in one cordless phones which have integrated Skype (no computer needed), but their cost and technical issues made me think twice. I really wanted something that didn't require tethering to a computer. Has anyone had any luck with bluetooth dongles and headsets or the Callpod Drone/Dragon combination?

I use the Dialog Skype phone from Miglia and have been pleased. It uses a usb dongle attached to your computer to wirelessly transmit the audio to the handset so it basically works just like a cordless phone. Like a cordless phone, I might get a bit of interference on occasion if I wander too far from the computer, but overall I have been pleased.
