Dear Unplggd,
We're all moved in to our new (NYC) place and I wonder if there are services out there to help set up a home office so that the wires aren't, well, haywire. Thanks.

Thanks for the question Stacey. I'll throw this out to the crowd. Any one in NYC have any suggestions for home office set up help?
You could just buy a bunch of those IKEA wire control things and hammer them to desks. Pair that up with a bunch of computers with wireless cards and you're set.

oh man, i'm so OCD you can just pay me to straighten out your haywires!!
maybe those geeks or whatever they're called have some sort of service like that...but i think it's more a declutterer that would do it. professional organizer?
if i were you, i'd surf around unplggd for the cable mgmt systems we all know and love ;)

Ok so yeah-lets open this up beyond NYC. I'm in a similar boat except in the Bay Area and with my Home Theater Setup.
I've tried all the gadgets and wraps to try and hide all of the wires, but when it's all sitting on a metal rack and you have a cable box, slingbox, ps3, wii, xbox 360, airport express, another router, and a receiver hiding the wires is just something I'm sick of attempting.
I just want to hire someone for a little bit to come over and hide it all nice and tidy.

what about something like this:
http://hdinstallers.com/
i also found this article about best buy having an installation service:
http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/25/how-much-to-re-cable-a-home-theater-system/?ref=personaltech
so, maybe this service DOES EXIST? like santa? hmm?

Seriously, just grab a Signum or two from Ikea and have at it. I recently redid my desk with that and a Macessity v2 monitor stand/usb hub, along with a couple of under-desk mounts designed for a mac mini (have the mini in one and 2 external drives in the other). Did wonders, took an hour or so. Most power strips can also be mounted to the underside of the desk as well to make life even more organized.

I have a fairly clean setup at home using zip ties and some pegboard. There are whole companies that are devoted to wire management systems but most of them look straight from the cubicle. I don't know of any installation services on a small scale.
I'm handy and in Manhattan, maybe we could work something out?
